The Algebra of Coherent Algebraic Sheaves

The Algebra of Coherent Algebraic Sheaves

with an Explicated Translation of Serre's "Fasceaux Algébriques Cohérent"

Serres "Fasceaux Algebriques Coherent" (Annals of Mathematics 1955) is a landmark in the history of algebraic geometry, providing the main ideas that were subsequently elaborated, in great detail, by Grothendieck and his collaborators. This project began as an effort to prepare a translation of FAC and grew into a book providing the commutative algebra that is required to understand FAC completely, followed by the translation, which has interspersed comments assisting less experienced readers. The commutative and homological algebra covered here is the core material underlying the study of algebraic geometry, so this book will be useful to students of that subject, as well as those who seek an initial grounding in homological algebra or who wish to pursue commutative algebra beyond the introductory level.
